Weather: Heavy rainfall forecast for parts of Oman

Muscat: A number of wilayats of the Sultanate of Oman witnessed scattered rains today. The Sultanate will be affected by a low pressure system starting on Sunday 14, April 2024 till Wednesday 17, April 2024.

The latest weather updates and analysis of the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Center indicate clouds advection with isolated rain and occasionally thundershower spreed over Northern governorate of the Sultanate.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, cloud advection and development with chances of thunderstorms and heavy rain associated with active downdraft winds and hail which may cause flash floods are expected over Musandam, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahira, Muscat, Al Dakhylia, North Al Sharqiya, South Al Sharqiya, parts of Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates.

There is chance of moderate to fresh Southeasterly winds. Chances of rise in wave height from moderate to rough (2.0- 3.0 meters) along coastal areas.

Details of daily weather condition:

Saturday, 13 April 2024: Clouds advection and formation with isolated rain occasionally thundershower with varying intensity (10 - 30 mm) which may cause flash flood in North and South Al Sharqiyah and parts of Muscat and Al Dhahirah governorates.

Sunday, 14 April 2024: Clouds advection and formation of thunderstorms with varying rain fall intensity (30 120 mm) associated with downdraft and hail, which may cause flash flood, and the intensity will be concentration over Muscat, South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, north Al Sharqiya, south Al Sharqiya, Al Dakhyliah and Al Dhahirah governorates. Chance of isolated rain over North Al Batinah, Musandam, Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates. Active downdraft winds with speed ranging between (20 to 45 kt) (36-81 km/h).

Monday, 15 April 2024: Clouds advection and formation of thunderstorms with varying rain fall intensity (30 - 120 mm) associated with downdraft and hail, which may cause flash flood, over North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, and its concentration over Muscat, South Al Batinah, North Al Shargiya, South Al Sharqiyah, Al Dakhyliah and Al Dhahirah governorates.

Chance of isolated rain over Musandam governorate and parts of Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates associated with Active downdraft winds with speed ranging between (20 to 45 kt) (36-81 km/h).

The impact of the low-pressure system on Oman will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday April 16 -17 April 2024.

Civil Aviation Authority advises all to take precaution during rainfall and flash floods and to check visibility and sea state before sailing and follow the issued weather bulletins & reports.
