Muscat: New Generation Group (NGG) of The Anglo-Omani Society held its fifth delegation in Cambridge from July 28 to 30.
The theme this year was the importance of communication in Oman’s diversifying economy. As a result of the oil price decline, economic policies and commercial practices are being reviewed and reformed across the region.
Communication strategy and outreach have been identified as vital areas for growth in Oman and the delegation sought to explore best practices with some of the United Kingdom’s top political, corporate and academic advisors.
Alex Aiken, executive director, U.K. Government Communications, shared his expertise on the effective conveyance of policy; Ilya Bourtman, vice president, Communications and External Affairs at BP Middle East, addressed communications from the perspective of a multi-national energy company; the challenges of communicating in a multi-channel media environment were identified by Dr. Chris Westcott, former director of BBC Monitoring.
The Chairman of NGG Oman, Sheikh Ma’an Al Rawahi, commented, “This stimulating programme inspired constructive debate and resulted in the formation of a number of policy recommendations, which we will circulate to leaders, interested parties and our partners across Oman’s public and private sectors.
“NGG will continue to gather in Oman to build on the achievements of this year’s delegation as we look forward to hosting our British friends in 2017.”
Oliver Blake, chairman, NGG UK, said, “We would like to thank our headline sponsors BP and SABCO Group for their generous contributions. We are also grateful for the support of our other sponsors David McCarty Goldsmiths and Amouage, as well as Corpus Christi College, Cambridge for hosting this event.”
