Muscat: Embassy of India, Muscat, in association with the Health Ministry of Oman, successfully conducted the Annual Ramadan Blood Donation Drive for 2024 from 29th March to 6th April.
This year’s drive witnessed a strong response from the Indian community, with more than 1,000 individuals coming forward to participate, resulting in the collection of around 800 units of blood.
Thamara Al Gafri, Director General of Health Services, Muscat, together with Amit Narang, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman inaugurated the week-long event on 29th March.
The blood donation drive by the Embassy aims to address the shortage of blood at Oman’s blood banks, often experienced during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
This marks the third consecutive year that the Embassy of India has organized a blood donation drive during the holy month of Ramadan.
Over the past three years, the Embassy has consistently organised such camps, with each year witnessing significant participation and contribution, exceeding 1,000 units of blood.
Ambassador Amit Narang said: “Blood donation is considered the highest form of social service and plays a direct role in saving lives. It is also an act of pure humanity, as blood does not distinguish among people.”
He added that “It is heartening to see the overwhelming response from the Indian community for this noble cause. This blood donation drive reaffirms the commitment of the Indian community to help the people of Oman at a time of critical blood shortage and strengthening the bonds of friendship between India and Oman.”
The Embassy extends its appreciation to all participants who generously donated blood, as well as to the various organisations and partners for their invaluable support.
Special thanks were extended to Sewa International, Bahwan Engineering Group, Al Naba Group, Al Ansari Group, Al Tasnim Group, the Dawoodi Bohra community, various Yoga organisations in Oman, Indian Schools in Oman, Lulu Hypermarket, and others for their contributions to the success of the blood donation drive.
