Barka: Khazaen Economic City has announced the opening of Khazaen Central Market for Fruits and Vegetables at the end of first half of2024.The completion of the project exceeded 98%.
Salim bin Sulaiman Al Zahli, Chief Executive Officer of Khazaen Economic City, said that it is one the largest markets in components of Khazaen Economic City and that the total private sector’s investments for development of the market amounted to over OMR50 million.
He said that Khazaen Central Market for Fruits and Vegetables represents an international and local platform for marketing, distribution, storage, export and re-export of vegetables and fruits.
He reaffirmed that Khazaen Central Market is also a national marketing outlet for local agricultural products. He said that the market was established on an area of 500 sq. metres, which is five-fold of the area of the current market and can be expanded in the future. The new market would lessen the waste of vegetables and fruits which is now between 30% to 35%.
The market would provide several investment opportunities to SMEs and various kiosks for selling the products and would redefine the concept of agricultural marketing of local products.
Speaking on the strategic objectives of the new market, he said that Khazaen Central Market would contribute to achieving the food security through attraction of local and foreign investments in the food sector and would also contribute to the performance and quality of the work inthe vegetables and fruits sector. It would also provide integrated logistics solutions for storage and cut the waste of vegetables and fruits, he added.
