Salary delays, unfair terminations most common workers' complaints in Oman

Muscat: Termination of employment contracts and delaying or non-payment of wages were among the most prominent complaints that were received by the General Federation of Oman Workers (GFOW) in 2023.

Labour cases and complaints received by the General Federation of Oman Workers have been numerous and varied. The most prominent of these were issues related to delaying or stopping the payment of wages for several months and the dismissal of many private sector establishments from a large number of Omani and expat workforce alike.

In addition, the General Federation of Oman Workers received some claims and complaints related to improving working terms and conditions, and the non-compliance of some establishments with occupational safety and health standards.

Among the most prominent labour demands, complaints, and violations received by the General Federation are:

1-Termination of employment contracts unilaterally by the employer without legal justifications.

2-Termination of employment contracts due to the end of the projects assigned to the establishments or due to the bankruptcy and liquidation of the establishments.

3-Failure to pay wages or delay in paying them in violation of the labour law.

4-Failure to comply with the provisions of the regulations for occupational safety and health measures.

5-Transferring the Omani workforce to different work sites other than those specified in the employment contract.
