Oman’s livestock exports up by 45% by end of 2023

Muscat: The value of the Sultanate of Oman’s exports of livestock by the end of 2023 increased by 45 percent to OMR3.20 million compared to OMR2.21 million by the end of 2022.

The total weight of livestock exported till the end of 2023 stood at 3,363,443 kilogrammes, compared to 2,594,211 kilogrammes by the end of 2022, according to preliminary statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

Camels topped the list of livestock exports to the tune of OMR1,829,913, followed by mixed breed goats OMR715,543, purebred goats OMR147,350, lamb OMR128,554 and cattle OMR105,426.

Statistics showed that the United Arab Emirates imported the largest volume of livestock from Oman (to the tune of OMR2,257,710, followed by Yemen OMR454,311, Saudi Arabia OMR353,198, Qatar OMR85,849 and Iran OMR17,100.

Statistics indicate that the value of livestock re-exports grew by 97 percent by the end of 2023 to OMR92,335,550 against a total weight of 51,628,948 kilogrammes.
