Oman donates $1 million to children in Gaza

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has contributed USD 1 million to aid children in the State of Palestine.

This contribution will play a crucial role in UNICEF’s efforts to deliver essential aid to vulnerable children in the Gaza Strip, who confront catastrophic humanitarian crises; from threats to their safety as a result of the ongoing bombardment, severe malnutrition and nearly collapsed healthcare services to the halt of their education and the piling impacts on their mental health. With the backing from the government of Oman, UNICEF will be able to reinforce its lifesaving support for the children in the State of Palestine.

“We extend our sincere thanks to the Foreign Ministry in the Sultanate of Oman for its commitment towards children,” said Sumaira Chowdhury, UNICEF Representative in Oman. “This generous donation will make a huge difference in the lives of children who are facing unprecedented deprivations and require all the support they can get to survive.”

Despite extreme challenges, UNICEF remains on the ground, prioritising the delivery of safe drinking water, medical and education supplies, support to health workers and providing nutritional supplements and vitamins to the children and families of Gaza.

UNICEF has moved critical emergency supplies into the Gaza Strip, including water pipes, vaccines, syringes, acute watery diarrhoea periphery kits, obstetric surgical kits, synthetic blankets, family tents, sleeping mats, feminine hygiene kits and incubators for newborns. In addition, UNICEF has transferred humanitarian cash assistance to over 500,000 people.

In the West Bank, UNICEF continues to provide essential child protection services including mental health and psychosocial support.

UNICEF persistently urges global leaders at every opportunity for a cease of violence and a secure humanitarian access throughout and across the entirety of the Gaza Strip.
