Muscat: Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) Chairman Khalid Al Zubair has reaffirmed OOC’s commitment to enhancing the sports sector in the Sultanate of Oman.

He hailed the ongoing studies commissioned by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth to assess the state of sports in Oman and governance structures.

“The efforts by the sports ministry aim to streamline roles and responsibilities across stakeholders and pave the way for comprehensive planning geared towards achieving optimal sporting outcomes in the years to come,” said Al Zubair.

Addressing the members of the board at the OOC General Assembly held on Tuesday, Al Zubair commended the active participation and insightful contributions of committee members. He emphasised the importance of trust, constructive dialogue, collaboration, and partnership within the Omani sports community.

Highlighting OOC’s commitment to fostering regional cooperation, Al Zubair stressed the significance of collaboration within the GCC framework.

“Such collaborations serve as a conduit for sharing experiences, fostering cooperation, and aligning visions among GCC nations towards common sports and youth objectives,” he added.

Al Zubair also praised Oman’s successful hosting of the 35th meeting of GCC NOCs Presidents in Muscat and expressed satisfaction with the subsequent strides taken to implement the outcomes of these meetings, including the hosting of the inaugural GCC Youth and Junior Games in the United Arab Emirates in April.

Regarding ongoing initiatives related to the governance of OOC and sports federations, Al Zubair outlined the committee’s proactive approach towards future projects and programmes. He highlighted the implementation of governance frameworks and the adoption of pertinent regulations, including financial guidelines and athlete-related protocols aligned with international standards.

Al Zubair congratulated Omani athletes for their recent achievements across sailing, athletics, and para-sports at the Asian Games.

He reiterated OOC’s drive to nurture Omani youth as catalysts for comprehensive development and thanked the pivotal role played by His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports, and Youth, in bolstering the sports sector towards multifaceted and sustainable growth, echoing His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said’s vision for a robust and resilient nation.
