Oman emerge champions at GCC Tent Pegging Championships

Salalah: Oman emerged champions of the Gulf Tent Pegging Championships, which was held as part of Salalah Tourism Festival.
In the competition that concluded on Saturday, Oman finished on top overall with 112 points, while Saudi Arabia was a distant second with 80 points. In third place was the UAE team who garnered 66 points.
In the competitions held for the military units, Sultanate of Oman's Armour took the first spot, while ROP Household Cavalry finished second followed by Royal Cavalry in third spot.
On the final day, Oman won the team event (lance and sword) beating Qatar to the second place, while Saudi Arabia finished third.
Faris Ali Khamis Al Balushi was named the best knight of the championship, while Said Al Harrasi too claimed individual honours.
Organised by Oman Equestrian Federation in co-operation with the Dhofar Municipality, the championship was patronised by Mohammed bin Sultan bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar.
The final day's competition was presided over by Minister of Sports Affairs Sheikh Saad bin Mardouf Al Saadi and also present were Sheikh Salim bin Alawi Al Shanfari, chairman of Dhofar Municipality and head of Salalah Tourism Festival Committee, Sayyid Mundhir bin Saif Al Busaidi, chairman of Oman Equestrian Federation, and Mohammed bin Issa Al Fairouz, president of International Tent Pegging Federation.
