Yesterday, a number of Wilayats of the Sultanate witnessed heavy thunderstorms accompanied by thunderbolts and lightning, which caused valleys and reefs to flow.
The Civil Aviation Authority said in the weather forecast: “Partly cloudy to cloudy skies over most of the governorates with chance of thunderstorms associated with downdrafts and hail causing flash floods over Al Buraimi, AL Dhahira, North AL Batinah, South AL Batinah, AL Dakhylia, Muscat, North AL Sharqiyah, South AL Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and Dhofar.”
Horizontal visibility might reduce during thunderstorms, downdrafts, hail, and flash floods, CAA noted. Added, their are chance of low clouds or fog patches late night to early morning along the coasts of the Arabian Sea,
It is worth noting that the Relief and Shelter Sector confirms the readiness of shelter centers in several governorates expected to be affected by the weather. 202 centres have been identified, of which three have been activated in Al Buraimi Governorate so far, while the total number of equipped centres has reached 48.
