Muscat: Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) underscores its unwavering commitment to fostering a culture of health, safety, and environmental stewardship. This commitment has yielded a significant achievement as OETC announced the attainment of 46 million safe work hours since the occurrence of its last lost time injury (LTI).
This was accomplished through various projects undertaken by the company to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of the electricity transmission network across the Sultanate of Oman.
This achievement reflects the diligent efforts directed by the company towards applying and monitoring international health, safety, and environmental standards, alongside efforts focused on raising awareness among employees, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders about the importance of compliance with systems, laws, policies, and regulations put in place to ensure the safety and security of everyone in various work sites.
Regarding this achievement, Eng. Fahad Al-Kiyumi, Acting General Manager of the Quality, Health, Safety, Security, and Environment Department, emphasized the company's keen interest in this aspect, in addition to allocating an integrated team of experts and specialists in the field of health, safety, and the environment to ensure the smooth operation of various processes according to the plans and policies set by the relevant authorities or according to international standards, in addition to the continuous development in this field.
Al-Kiyumi added: "This achievement reflects the OETC’s commitment to the health and safety of its employees and all stakeholders, in addition to its commitment to the safety of the Omani environment, which we always seek to preserve through various operations and efforts. The company has previously obtained certification from the International Organization for Standards (ISO) in occupational health and safety, which confirms the practical application of various international standards and systems across all projects and operations of the company. We are proud of this achievement and reaffirm our efforts and keenness to achieve more accomplishments and targets in this regard."
It is worth mentioning that OETC, a member of the Nama Group, is the only company responsible for the transmission and control of electricity across the Sultanate’s network. The electricity is transmitted from production stations to distributed load centres in the governorates. The transmission network operates at a voltage of 132kV and above to cover most of the governorates in the Sultanate, whether in the north or the south. Furthermore, OETC manages the interconnection lines between Oman and the GCC interconnection network, which operates at a voltage of 220kV.
