Revenues exceed OMR 850 million in Oman's telecommunication sector

Muscat: The total revenues of the telecommunication sector in 2023 amounted to about OMR 851 million, an increase of 12 percent compared to 2022, said the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority(TRA).

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s media meeting reviews statistics of the telecommunications and postal services sectors, projects completed in 2023, the performance of fixed and mobile telephone networks, and upcoming work projects.

Telecommunications Regulatory Authority: "Telecommunications sector statistics show an increase in mobile phone subscriptions in the Sultanate of Oman during the year 2023 by 3 percent, in mobile broadband by 5 percent, in fixed telephone by 3 percent, and in fixed broadband by 5 percent."

"The total number of workers in companies licensed in the sector reached 4,167 workers, with an Omanization rate of 94 percent, " TRA said.

The Authority added that the number of licensed postal companies increased by 31 percent, reaching 63 companies in 2023, and the total number of workers on permanent contracts there reached 1,676 workers, with an Omanization rate of 78 percent.

"The total revenues of companies licensed in the postal sector in the Sultanate of Oman reached about OMR 20.6 million by the end of 2023, an increase of 14 percent compared to 2022."

TRA :"The most prominent projects completed during the past year were the controls for investment in the infrastructure of fiber optic networks, the requirements for preparing an emergency management plan in the telecommunications sector, and the issuance of controls for public auction procedures for mobile phone numbers."

The Authority confirms the completion of the early warning system in the coastal wilayats in cooperation with the Civil Aviation Authority and operators, and the issuance of a first-class license to Starlink Muscat to provide fixed public telecommunications services.

During the current year, the Authority is focusing on improving telecommunications services for the sectors of education, health, tourism, industry, transportation, environmental sustainability for the telecommunications and postal sectors, and innovation, scientific research, and development in the field of communications.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority confirms that the transition from third generation service to fourth and fifth generation and the distribution of new bands to telecommunications companies in the Sultanate of Oman will improve and improve telecommunications services during the coming period.
