Heritage Ministry Organises Workshop on Combating Trafficking in Meteorites

Muscat:  - The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism today organized a specialized workshop titled “Meteorites in Oman and means of combating illicit trade in them”.

The workshop was held under the auspices of Salim Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism.

The workshop sought ways of empowering partners in charge of customs inspection (at land, air and seaport checkpoints), small and medium enterprises doing business in the field of tourism guidance and researchers in the field of geological heritage.

The workshop dealt with means of combating illicit trafficking of cultural property and raising the awareness of companies operating in the field of posts, customs clearance and disclosure. It also addressed judicial control officers and museum attendants.

The workshop reviewed working papers presented by experts and specialists in the field of meteorite affairs. It also included visual presentations on combating illicit trafficking of cultural property and related legal procedures to control such practices.

The participants toured a mini exhibition about meteorites and took note of the Ministry’s efforts to organize the specialty of meteorites conservation.
