Muscat: Six people, including three children and a woman, lost their lives while two others were reported missing as Oman faced severe weather conditions, characterised by heavy rainfall on Monday and Tuesday.
Officials said that three children drowned in Wadi Bani Ghafir in Rustaq while an accident in the Wilayat of Izki claimed the life of a woman.
Another person was found dead in Wadi Ghayya in Yanqul and a road accident claimed the life of a man in Jabal Akhdar.
One person is reported to be missing from Yanqul and another from Jabal Akhdar.
The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA), which is carrying out the relief and rescue work, dealt with 224 reports since the beginning of the weather condition. Rescue and rehabilitation operations are still continuing.
Nearly 200 persons were rescued from different parts of Oman during rains.
The Royal Oman Police arrested 36 people for crossing valleys, and endangering their lives in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. Legal procedures are being completed against them.
Officials said that the weather conditions that prevailed over the last two days are expected to stabilise by Wednesday.
There are still chances of scattered rains of varying intensity over the governorates of South Al Sharqiyah and North Al Sharqiyah and the coastal parts of the governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and Muscat.
The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority has called on everyone to be careful, not to risk crossing valleys, to stay away from water bodies and lighting poles, and monitor children for their safety.
The CDAA has urged people to stay at home and not to step out except for emergencies during heavy rains.
The government has started cleaning and repair works of all the roads that were damaged due to the unstable weather that Oman over the last two days.
