Muscat: In cooperation with all parties and partners, the Regional Airports Unit of “Oman Airports” achieved remarkable progress in promoting economic growth and sustainable development in the Duqm Special Economic Zone.
Since its opening five years ago, Duqm Airport has been an integral part of Oman Airport's strategy to enhance infrastructure and logistics services in the region, in close cooperation with the Oman Airport Commercial Operations Unit, responsible for marketing and business development.
Sheikh Hilal bin Hamad Al-Mujali, Director of Duqm Airport at Oman Airports Company, said: "The continued growth in the number of passengers and flights witnessed by Duqm has led to an increase in the number of passengers from 12,663 arrivals and 11,706 departures in 2020 to 33,348 arrivals and 31,514 departures in 2023." He noted that these statistics reflect the efforts made to enhance air traffic and facilitate access to the region, which helps attract investments and stimulate tourism in the Wilayat of Duqm.
He stressed that there are plans to develop Duqm Airport in line with industrial growth in the region, as these plans include expanding facilities and improving services to keep pace with the expected increase in passenger and freight traffic, explaining that these improvements will contribute to making Duqm Airport a major air transport centre and a gateway for trade and tourism in the region.
He pointed out that Oman Airports is working to expand the network of flights to and from the airport to include more local and international destinations, indicating that increasing air connectivity will enhance business opportunities and facilitate trade and cultural exchange, especially with the increasing movement of businessmen, investors and tourists.
Sheikh Hilal Al Majali stressed that Oman Airports is committed to working alongside the Duqm Special Economic Zone and other stakeholders to ensure the continued success and prosperity of the airport, thus contributing to the entire region's progress.
