Muscat: The Omani Society for Kidney Diseases and Transplantation, in cooperation with Nizwa Hospital, organised the First Gulf Peritoneal Dialysis Conference in Wilayat of Nizwa, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Khamis bin Saif Al Jabri, Head of the Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit.
According to reports of the Ministry of Health in the Sultanate of Oman, 1% of the population suffers from severe kidney failure, 9% suffers from moderate kidney failure, and 30% suffers from mild kidney failure. These are large percentages that require follow-up and awareness to limit its spread and provide all means of treating it.
About 170 doctors, paramedics, and specialists in the field of caring for patients with kidney failure from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman are participating in this conference.
The conference, includes workshops and training sessions to improve care skills and encourage international communication to enhance the level of health care in the field of mental health for kidney patients and their families.
Dr. Issa bin Salem Al Salmi, Nephrology Consultant at the Royal Hospital, said that the rate of kidney disease is increasing all over the world, as well as in the Sultanate of Oman and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. The Society decided to hold this conference to point out and promote the issue of the types and problems of kidney disease and provide the opportunity to discuss scientific research. And the findings of modern science in treatment mechanisms and urging society in the field of new trends in the treatment of kidney diseases.
