Mirbat is a coastal town in the Dhofar region of southwestern Oman. Centuries ago it was noted for its export of frankincense
to places as far away as China.

In modern times, Mirbat is known for its thriving fishing industry. An erstwhile frankincense trading post, it is now a bustling fish port where the harvest of the sea come in by the boatload.

In the old part of town, you will see ancient merchant houses built in traditional Yemeni-style mud brick with hand-carved doors and windows.

If you came for the sights and sounds of the sea, the crashing waves at the beachfront and the seabirds perched on rocks are definitely worth the trip.
