Muscat : The Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at Sohar Hospital, with support from the National Centre for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery, has performed 42 pacemaker implants since its inauguration in February 2023.
Dr. Najeeb bin Zahran Al Rawahi, Director of the National Centre for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery, pointed out that performing this type of operation outside Muscat Governorate comes within the Ministry of Health’s decentralisation plan to provide health services and necessary care to patients outside Muscat and to reduce the waiting list for patients.
Al Rawahi said that the partnership between the centre and Sohar Hospital began in 2009, through the presence of a regular clinic in Sohar Hospital for heart blockage patients and the follow-up of patients after implant of pacemaker in Sohar Hospital. It is managed by a Senior Consultant Electrocardiologist from the centre where more than 600 patients are examined per year.
Al Rawahi said that the National Centre for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery at Sohar Hospital provides many services, including diagnosing heart disorders, treating them with medications, implanting pacemakers, and defibrillators.
It is noteworthy that the cardiac catheterisation laboratory at Sohar Hospital includes two rooms for performing catheterisation operations, equipped with the latest modern medical technologies for performing heart, arterial, and cerebral vessel catheterisation operations. A ward for post-cardiac catheterisation was also created, having 22 beds, in addition to a special cardiac care unit containing 12 beds.
