Muscat: Oman Customs has launched a traveller's guide, which includes information about customs declaration or disclosure of funds, precious metals, and prohibited materials and goods on Customs Day, which falls on January 26 annually.
According to Oman Customs, the traveller's guide includes information about customs declaration or disclosure of money, precious metals, prohibited and restricted materials and goods, and personal effects exempt from customs tax. A list of the most important luggage exempt from customs tax when accompanied by the traveller:
1. Film projectors and their supplies.
2. Mobile phone.
3. Television and receiver.
4. Baby strollers.
5. Personal sports equipment.
6. Computer and printer.
7. Wheelchairs and strollers for special needs.
8. Medicines for personal use.
9. Clothes and tools for personal use.
10. Jewelry.
11. Mobile musical instruments.
12. Video cameras for personal use.
Conditions for exemption from customs tax for personal effects:
1. The luggage and gifts must be of a personal nature.
2. Its value should not exceed OMR 300.
3. It must not be of a commercial nature.
4. The traveller must not be a regular at the customs office.
5. The permitted number of cigarettes shall not exceed the prescribed number (400 cigarettes.)
6. The permitted quantity of alcoholic beverages should not exceed (4 litres).
7. The quantity of portable electronic cigarettes should not exceed 2 per person.
8. The traveller must be at least 18 years old.
Restricted goods are goods whose import or export is restricted with the approval of other parties.
The following items are allowed after obtaining approval from the competent government authorities:
1. Live animals, plants, fertilisers and pesticides.
2. Medicines, drugs and equipment: Medical devices and machines.
3. Print publications and media products.
4. Transmitters and wireless devices.
5. Cosmetic products and personal care.
6. Radio aircraft (Drone).
Prohibited goods: These are goods that the Sultanate of Oman prohibits importing or exporting in accordance with the Unified Customs Law.
1. Weapons of all kinds.
2. Goods that conceal their true nature, such as sticks containing spears or swords.
3. Rifles, pistols, and children’s toys with weapons.
4. Tools and clothing similar to military clothing.
5. Riflescopes and night scopes.
6. Taser.
7. Natural ivory.
8. Drugs and psychotropic substances.
9. Explosives.
In addition, the customs educational platform was also launched, which aims to qualify qualified cadres with customs knowledge and provide them with basic skills. The General Administration of Customs launched the Quick Response Code (QR) service to verify the original documents and permits issued through the Bayan electronic system to avoid forgery.
