Rasheed of Morocco wins desert marathon
Bidiya: Rasheed Al Marabti of Morocco was crowned champion of the 9th edition of Oman Desert Marathon held in the Wilayat of Bidiya, North Al Sharqiyah Governorate.
The marathon was organised as part of the activities of North Al Sharqiyah Winter 2024 under the patronage of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in partnership with a number of government departments and private sector establishments.
The three-day marathon included four stages for a total of 165 kilometres in the sands of Al Sharqiyah governorate and saw the participation of over 700 athletes from various countries. 
Rasheed Al Marabti secured the first place after completion of the four stages of the race in 16 hours, 6 minutes and 49 seconds followed by Saleh Al Saidi (Oman) who completed the distance in 16 hours, 27 minutes and 27 seconds and Ghaith Al Saidi with 17 hours, 23 minutes and 6 second, respectively.
In the women’s category, Aziza Al Raji (Morocco) secured first place in 23 hours, 13 minutes and 30 seconds followed by Aziza Al Amrani (Morocco) in 23 hours, 40 minutes and 15 seconds and Voronko Messina (France) who claimed third place in 25 hours, 38 minutes and 53 seconds.
