Muscat: His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers and members of the Council of Ministers reviewed the work of Muscat International Airport on Sunday.
Upon his arrival, Sayyid Fahd was received by Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications and officials at the ministry, in addition to members of the Technical Committee supervising the airports projects.
The Minister of Transport and Communications gave a visual presentation to their highnesses and excellencies on the airports in Oman, their components, the progress of work, the completion stage and the status of readiness for operation.
After the presentation, they reviewed the work of Muscat International Airport, which is more than 86per cent complete. They also reviewed the external works, including the air traffic control (ATC) tower, the northern runway, the building of the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) and the Meteorology and Air Navigation Complex, in addition to the current works surrounding the passengers’ terminal, such as the roads leading to the airport. Dr. Al Futaisi affirmed that Muscat International Airport took into consideration the future expansions.
Afterwards, Sayyid Fahd and members of the Council of Ministers toured the passengers’ terminal and its facilities including the areas dedicated for check-in, boarding, security measures, the duty free market at the heart of project and the airport hotel. They also toured the northern section of the project, which is one of three sections at Muscat International Airport. The model of the section is inspired from the Omani architectural design. The tour also included the arrival terminal at the northern section and its components.
Sayyid Fahd and the attendees expressed their admiration over the progress of work at the airport and the high quality of its facilities.
Sayyid Fahd also praised the efforts made to complete the airports and other major projects in different parts of the Sultanate, which all come within the efforts made to translate the sound vision and constant keenness of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to continue the comprehensive development process and availing of all vital utilities in the Sultanate.
On behalf of members of the Council of Ministers and himself, Sayyid Fahd thanked all those involved in the implementation of this vital project, the officials at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Technical Committee in-charge of the airports’ projects and the Board of Directors of the company implementing the project and wished them permanent success.
At the end of the visit, Sayyid Fahd asked the Board of Directors of the company implementing the project the importance of completing the project on time and as per the required quality standards as it is the case with the other strategic projects.
