Washington: The Sultan Qaboos Centre for Culture in Washington is hosting the modern handicrafts exhibition, ‘Omani Treasures: Contemporary Crafts’, in cooperation with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority.
The exhibition, which will continue until Wednesday, includes the participation of the prominent Omani products from the private sector and small and medium enterprises.
Moosa Hamdan Al Ta’ei, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the United States of America (USA) appreciated the efforts made in preserving heritage and embodying it in the production of modern products.
Dr. Paul Taylor, official at the US Smithsonian National Museum in Washington, gave a presentation on the interrelation between Omani and American traditional crafts, reviewing the most prominent heritage artefacts in the museum, some of which date back to the visit of the ship Sultana in 1840. He also presented a sample of the collections of a number of Omani museums.
Participants from the Handicrafts Authority gave a presentation about their work and successes stemming from the ancient Omani history.
