Now, explore Muscat with new tourism app

Muscat: Tourists coming to Muscat to explore its natural beauty may now seek guidance from the Ministry of Tourism’s guide.
The guide, an electronic application, called Muscat Geotourism, can be downloaded on the phone and provides important scientific information with regard to any geological, tourist, environmental or cultural features in four main languages, and includes explanatory maps and guidance boards installed at each site in both Arabic and English.

The application is also linked to the Ministry of Tourism’s website under the name of Muscat Geoheritage.
Dawood bin Sulaiman Al Rashidi, Assistant Director of Tourism Product Development in the Directorate General of Tourism Development, said, “The Ministry of Tourism is aspiring to develop tourism products, take care of the sustainability and improvement of services. It wants to ensure that there is optimal use of its biodiversity, which makes Oman unique.”
This is the reason why the Ministry of Tourism is focusing on the implementation of a guide for geological tracks in Muscat governorate.
It is working on projects to raise the level of environmental and tourism education and awareness among the people.
It is also introducing geological tracks in Muscat governorate. He said that the guide would enable tourists to explore the geological heritage, rock formations, and other such natural components, which were formed during different periods.
“The project targets the top 30 geological sites in the governorate of Muscat that include the maps of the governorate of Muscat, illustrated maps of Wadi Al Khoud, Bausher, Bandar Al Khayran area, Wadi Al Mayh area, Wadi Umdah in Amirat, Wadi Mijlas in Quriyat, and the old Muttrah route,” the official added.
The official said this will be useful to tourists who are big on adventure and would like to know about the various heritage sites in the governorate. “A visit to these geological sites will provide tourists with an enjoyable and useful exploration experience by tracking some of the geological heritage sites, rock formations and other natural sites that were formed over different time periods.”
