Muscat: The number of visitors to Salalah during this year's Khareef has exceeded 800,000, the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) has revealed.
This statement came via the official NCSI Twitter handle.
“The number of visitors to Salalah this Khareef season stood at 814,010, as of Friday 07/09/2018, compared to 633,059 visitors during the same period of last year."
“This represents a growth rate of 28.6 per cent among Omani tourists and a 72.3 per cent jump among UAE citizens. There was a 9.3 per cent increase among tourists from the remaining GCC countries,” NCSI tweeted.
People working in the tourism sector in Oman had been expecting a better turnout in Salalah this Khareef, due to cyclone Mekunu.
The excessive rain brought with it additional greenery and flowing waterfalls, in addition to helping increase awareness about the region and its tourist spots, hoteliers explained.
