Muscat: With the beginning of the new academic year, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) is making efforts to ensure traffic safety and spread its awareness among students across various educational institutions.
It aims to create a generation aware of traffic safety rules and provide them with the knowledge and skills that regulate their behaviours and save lives.
The traffic awareness caravan, which was launched in 2010, is one of the most important means used for traffic awareness, especially for school students.
It also works to educate all segments of the society in an innovative manner, comprising three different buses.
The first bus contains a number of computers, while the other two buses have two lecture halls.
The convoy targets all groups and segments through participation in awareness events organised by governmental and private institutions.
The convoy participates in public and private school activities for all age groups.
The caravan also participates in events and festivals held in the Sultanate, such as the Muscat Festival and the Salalah Tourism Festival. The convoy’s participation comes in accordance with a plan managed by a traffic safety team.
The traffic school is one of the traffic awareness windows at the General Directorate of Traffic at the Royal Oman Police, which is dedicated to educating school students. It has prepared conscious traffic generation through a mini-traffic city that simulates the traffic situation. It includes all the components of the traffic environment, including streets, etc.
The school also carries out many educational programmes for school students through visits, in coordination with various governmental and private educational institutions, including kindergartens and Omani women associations, to familiarise children with the aspects of traffic safety, rules and regulations.
In addition, there is cooperation between the Royal Oman Police and the Ministry of Education to organise awareness lectures in schools for both students and bus drivers, as well as to provide instructors with brochures and leaflets containing advice and traffic instructions.
