Oman Food Bank dealt with over 33 tonnes of food in 2023

Muscat : The amount of food preservation that the Oman Food Bank dealt with until the end of November 2023 amounted to 33.2 tonnes of cooked food to be distributed to the beneficiaries in an effective manner.

The Oman Food Bank continues its efforts in the field of charitable work by preserving food and distributing it to those who deserve it in an effective manner, within the framework of achieving the concept of social solidarity and giving in society.

 Engineer Ibrahim bin Abdullah Al Hosani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Food Bank, said : "The bank was established in 2021 with the aim of spreading the culture of preserving grace among members of society, providing food aid to beneficiaries, and contributing to achieving food security. The bank is a non-profit commercial company registered with the Ministry of Commerce , Industry and Investment Promotion."

 The amount of food preservation that the Oman Food Bank dealt with until the end of last November amounted to 33.2 tonnes of cooked food. While the amount of vegetables and fruits reached 51.16 tons, and the number of food baskets distributed to families reached more than 5 thousand food baskets.

 Al Hosani added that the bank is keen to organise its priorities related to the sustainable environment axis by working to achieve a balance between environmental, economic and social requirements, and working with the rules of sustainable development to create environmental environments of high quality and free of pollution, according to a green and circular economy that responds to national needs and is consistent with the global trend. In addition to raising environmental awareness necessary for the effective application of sustainable consumption and production rules, with sustainable use and investment of natural resources and wealth to ensure the achievement of high added value.

 Al Hosani explained that the bank has four branches that preserve food and distribute it to those entitled to it, noting that there are awareness efforts undertaken by the bank by raising community awareness of the importance of food preservation and introducing the bank’s role to the community. A “Daymah recycling” project was recently implemented, which involves recycling waste and treating it on an ongoing basis to produce soil-enhancing fertilizer.
