Obesity surgeries are considered major surgeries that are performed laparoscopically.
Al Hadrami added that these operations have been approved in many countries as one-day operations, which come through continuous follow-up of the patient by communicating with him and adopting a rapid recovery system, which constitutes a basic pillar in this type of operation to contribute to reducing waiting lists and performing a larger number of operations per week.
Dr. Alia Bint Ali Al Balushi, Head of the Day Care Department, indicated that the operation was conducted under the supervision of a specialised medical team including obesity surgery, anesthesiologists, and a team of nurses at Khoula Hospital in the Day Care Department. Day care operations - or as they are called day operations - have witnessed a significant increase over the past two decades globally.
Al Balushi explained that day care operations were previously an option for healthy patients undergoing simple procedures, but with the development of modern surgical techniques and the advancement of anesthesia, it was allowed to expand to operations that include different categories of patients and more complex surgeries.
Dr. Rashid bin Mohammed Al Alawi, Director General of the General Directorate of Khoula Hospital, confirmed that the success of performing such an operation reflects the high level of development reached by the various medical services at Khoula Hospital. Pointing out that activating the day care department in the General Directorate of Khoula Hospital comes within the directorate’s plan to reduce waiting for appointments and reduce operating lists, and this comes within the Ministry of Health’s plan to improve the quality of health services provided.
It is noteworthy that the General Directorate of Khoula Hospital activated the day care department to conduct one-day operations in various specialised medical specialties, such as general surgery, plastic surgery, ear and throat operations, and dental operations for children under full anesthesia, with the aim of reducing waiting lists for appointments and surgical operations.
