Over 123,491 people benefit from social security scheme
Muscat: The Ministry of Social Development has said that the total number of individuals benefiting from the social security scheme stood at 123,491.
The ministry pointed out that 67,693 beneficiaries of the social security scheme received a sum of OMR72,350,109 by the end of the first half of 2023.
The ministry explained that 44 beneficiaries registered in the social security scheme received OMR29,352 as disaster assistance by the end of the first half of 2023, while 140 “People with Limited Income” received OMR158,132 as disaster assistance during the first half of 2023.
During the same period, a total number of 10,023 social security scheme beneficiaries received ‘temporary’, ‘emergency’ and ‘special’ cash assistance to the tune of OMR925,549.
Similarly, a total of 820,693 “People with Limited Income” received OMR640,528 as ‘temporary’, ‘emergency’ and ‘special’ cash assistance.
The Ministry stated that it has adopted  the Tamkeen programme which targets individuals benefiting from the social security scheme and those with limited income to make them self-dependent.
The ministry pointed out that 46 people including 27 males and 19 females joined its vocational programmes.

The ministry said that it has conducted several social researches, mainly related to social security and disaster-related cases, wherein the numbers reached 77,140 during the first six months of 2023.
The ministry reaffirmed that it supervises civil and vocational associations, Omani woman associations and the social community clubs to ensure they comply with the provisions of the law and the decisions and regulations of the Ministry of Social development besides supervising on their general meetings and following up with their activities.

The ministry also stated that the number of Omani woman associations and their branches in the governorates amounted to 66 with 9,971 members.
