OMR900 million allocated for development projects in Oman

Muscat: A sum of OMR900 million has been allocated for development projects in Oman.

The percentage allocation is distributed as follows: 9.6 percent for the commodity production sector, 13.5 percent for services, 32.7 percent for social segments, 33.9 percent for infrastructure, and 10.3 percent for other sectors. The estimated amount will be paid during the year as per the actual work in progress for the projects.

The budget has given priority to projects having social dimensions like education, health, culture, sports and youth, housing and urban planning, transport and agriculture, fisheries and water resources.

The budget 2024 document, which was announced on Monday, laid out the details of the development spending. The Ministry of Finance said that under the education sector the important projects include the construction of 15 public schools, besides floating tenders for the construction of 20 new schools.

Also plans were announced for the construction of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences building in Governorate Musandam. Under the implementation of the abroad scholarship programme (Rowad Oman) it will cover 150 scholarships in over five years. Besides 150 additional contracts will be offered for public school buses with the replacement of 1,000 school buses that will feature enhanced safety standards.

The budget 2024 document further said the development projects in the health sector include the completion of the construction of seven government hospitals (Sultan Qaboos Hospital, Salalah, Al Suqaiq Hospital, Wadi Bani Khalid Hospital, Khasab Hospital, Madha hospital, Mahout Hospital and Al Mazyona Hospital. 

Construction of three hospitals (Samail, Al Namaa and Al Falah), completion of the construction of two dialysis units. Besides, the renovation of two government hospitals, the opening up of the Central Laboratory of Infectious Diseases.

The development project also includes the construction of Oman Cultural Complex and infrastructure work for Phase I of Sultan Haitham City. >A2

The projects in the transport sector include the design and construction of an asphalt road between Khasab and Dibba and the road linking Lima in Musandam Governorate. 

Also design and construction of the remaining parts of Al Batinah Coastal Road Phase I, construction of the Al Ansab-Al Jifnain dual-carriage road, construction of the dual-carriage of Sultan Qaboos road in Salalah, construction of the asphalt road in the province of Muqshin in Dhofar Governorate and construction of tunnels of Atin intersection with 18 November Street in Salalah

In the agriculture, fisheries and water resources sector the projects that have been included are Wadai Adai Dam, Wadi Al-Zhaimi Dam, Masirah multi-purpose port and Shuwaimiya multi-purpose port.

The Budget also has mentioned development projects in various Governorates and include the development and maintenance of public parks, waterfront development projects.

Also the following projects will be implemented as the best winning projects: Remal Park project, Ames Bay Project and Rathath Boulevard Project.
