Muscat: An expatriate worker died and three others were injured after an escalator collapsed on top of them at an under construction mall in the Sultanate’s capital, Royal Oman Police (ROP) said on Tuesday.

The Royal Oman Police said in its statement: “An electric staircase [escalator] collapsed at a mall, which was under construction in Mabella area in the wilayat of Seeb, leading to the death of an Asian worker and varying levels of injury to three others.”

Last month (July), an Omani and an expat were injured in an elevator accident at a mall in Ibri, the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) said in a statement on Sunday.

PACDA added: “The rescue team at the Department of Civil Defence and Ambulance in Dhahirah managed to rescue a citizen and an Asian national who were injured after an elevator fell at a commercial centre in Ibri.

“The two were transported to the hospital after suffering mild injuries.”
