Council of Arab Ministers approve to open fund for families in Gaza

Muscat: The Sultanate of ⁧‫Oman‬⁩ participates in the meeting of the 43rd session of the Council of Arab Ministers for Social Affairs in Cairo, which approved the opening of an exceptional temporary fund for six months, renewable, to support and aid more than 350,000 families in the ‫Gaza ‬⁩ Strip.

The Sultanate of Oman’s delegation to the meeting was headed by Her Excellency Dr. Laila bint Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development.

 The three-day meeting decided to open an exceptional temporary fund to support and assist more than 350,000 families in the Gaza Strip for six months, subject to renewal.

The ministers hold a symposium on “Implementing the strategy of the Arab Summit in its 30th session for the elderly, between capabilities and challenges,” and to prepare a modern Arab strategy for developing statistics. The meeting called on member states to continue providing the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs with their national strategies and plans for poverty eradication policies to exchange experiences and knowledge among member states, and to ratify the statute of the Arab Center for Social Policy Studies and Poverty Eradication in accordance with established systems.

 The meeting included preparations for the seventeenth session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, scheduled to be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from June 11 to 13, 2024, supporting the rights of persons with disabilities in the face of epidemics and crises, and preparing for the World Summit on Disability (2025-2028).

In addition to discussing and approving other draft resolutions included in the meeting’s agenda.
