Archaeological sites in Al Dakhiliyah witness over 5,000 visitors

Muscat: The number of visitors to the archaeological sites of Bisya and Salut in the Wilayat of Bahla, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, affiliated with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, reached more than 5,000 of all ages during the period February-December 2023.

 Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Tamimi, Director of the Bisya and Salut Archaeological Site Department at the Ministry of Tourism and Heritage, said: " The Bisya and Salut Archaeological Site is a continuous extension of the diverse cultural heritage in architectural forms, towers, wells, ground cemeteries, marine cemeteries, and rock inscriptions, adding that the site aims to attract and introduce visitors to the historical dimension. It includes three main halls, represented by the Bronze Age Hall, the Iron Age Hall, and the World Heritage Sites Section. These sections contain 344 different artifacts, which were chosen to support the scientific texts in the exhibition hall lists.

 These pieces represent the different time periods of human settlement in the region, and highlight the size and nature of economic activities based on agriculture, trade, and mining. These exhibits also vary between tools, stone utensils, pottery, seals, and bronze artifacts.

 Al Tamimi stated that the department at the Bisya and Salut archaeological site works in the field of scientific research, to complement the efforts of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in surveying, scientific documentation, and periodic follow-up of archaeological sites, adding that the center supervises archaeological missions and provides support to researchers and those interested in the fields of history and archaeology.

 Al Tamimi stated that the center’s outdoor spaces allow exhibitions for small and medium enterprises, exhibitions of productive families, plastic arts, and hosting sporting events and various evening parties.
