Issue of Omanis stuck in Turkey resolved, says envoy

Muscat: The issue of a group of Omanis, stranded in Turkey following unpaid hotel reservations, has been solved, the Omani ambassador in Ankara said.
Dr Qasim Al Salhi, the ambassador said, “The Oman embassy in Turkey sought to solve the problem of some Omani citizens who were implicated in the absence of paid reservations in Turkish hotels despite signing a contract with an Omani firm. The embassy helped them communicate with Turkish authorities to end some suspended procedures with the hotel and one of the Turkish firms working in the field of tourism, pointing out that the trip ends on August 17 and citizens can contact the firm through which they booked their reservations if they see any damage inflicted on them because of this issue.”
“The Omani Embassy in Turkey received a telephone call from an Omani citizen on Wednesday, August 8, stating that a Turkish tourist company, which had a contract with an Omani tourist company refused to follow the agreed tour,” he said.
“The hotel called for the evacuation of 84 Omanis after the Omani firm refused to pay the Turkish tourist firm. The Oman embassy contacted the Turkish tourist company and the hotel, which said that the Omani firm had not paid the financial dues.”
“The embassy explained to the Turkish company that it was not permissible to use Omani citizens as a means to put pressure on the company and that the two companies must resolve the matter immediately. The embassy contacted the Omani firm, which promised to pay all the dues to the Turkish company in an hour. The owner of the Turkish company promised to complete the programme prepared for the group. At the same time, the embassy asked the citizens to reserve their return ticket confirmations to the Sultanate at the earliest.”
“The citizens preferred to complete their tourist programme until their return to Oman on August 17,” he concluded.
