Muscat: Indian expats in Oman celebrated their country’s 72nd Independence Day on Wednesday.
The day was marked with flag hoisting ceremonies and cultural programmes. The Indian embassy, the various wings of the Indian Social Club (ISCs) and Indian schools in the Sultanate, among others, observed the day with patriotic fervour.
The embassy held a flag hoisting ceremony which was attended by fellow Indian citizens, followed by cultural programmes.
“The embassy of India, Muscat, celebrates the 72nd Independence Day of India with the presence of some 400 members of the Indian community in Oman. Charge d’Affaires Rakesh Adlakha hoisted the national flag and read out a message from the President of India addressed to the nation,” @IndianDiplomacy, the official Twitter handle of the Indian embassy, tweeted. “The embassy of India, Muscat, wishes all the members of the Indian community in Oman a very happy Independence Day,” another tweet by the embassy read.
Indian School Ghubra (ISG) celebrated Independence Day in their school auditorium. C M Najeeb, Member, School Management Committee (SMC), was the chief guest for the occasion.
The celebrations began with the singing of the National Anthem of India. Speakers reflected on the sacrifices of freedom fighters to infuse pride, honour and patriotism in everyone. The school choir enthralled the audience with renditions of the patriotic songs, “Sab Se Unchi, Vijay Pataka” and “Hum Sab Bhartiya Hai” glorifying the flag and the unity of the nation. This was followed by “Nritya Tarangini”, a semi-classical dance, which extolled the beauty of India.
The vibrant music and the colourful dance performances by the participants held the audience’s attention and instilled in them patriotic fervour. The celebration culminated with a prayer for the nation by the principal.
