Oman’s consumer watchdog seizes over 75,000 commodities in 2018

Muscat: The Sultanate’s consumer watchdog has seized 75,886 commodities in the first six months of 2018, amounting to a 63.7 per cent rise when compared to the same period in 2017, Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) has announced.

The seized goods contained a variety of products, officials added. Tobacco and chewing tobacco topped the list with a total of 45,097 commodities, followed by cosmetics and personal hygiene products with a total of 8,314. In the food sector, 8,187 items were seized, while 14,288 commodities were confiscated by PACP from other sectors.

Hamoud Al Jabri, Director General of Consumer Services and Market Control, said that the seized goods varied between products that are not allowed to be traded, expired goods and goods not suitable for human consumption among others.
