GUtech receives approval for the Master of Science in Hydrogen Economy and Technology Programme

Muscat: The German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) is pleased to announce that we have received official approval for a new Master of Science in Hydrogen Economy and Technology. This marks a significant milestone in GUtech’s commitment to advancing education, research, and innovation in sustainable energy.

 

Professor Dr. Michael Braun, the Rector of GUtech, emphasized that "the approval for the Hydrogen Master Programme underscores GUtech's dedication to staying at the forefront of emerging technologies and addressing the local and global needs for skilled professionals in the hydrogen sector. The program has been designed and aligned along the value chain from generation of electricity, hydrogen production, transport, distribution, and storage to reconversion and efficient use in a variety of applications.“

 

Professor Dr. Armin Eberlein, the Deputy Rector for Academic Affairs, stated that “this 1.5-year programme will be a transformative Master programme, a one-of-its-kind in the region. It was designed with the working professional in mind will contain a mix of theory and practice that can be experienced through a real hydrogen demonstrator containing all components of the hydrogen value chain. Students can specialize based on their personal interests or their employers’ needs. Local and international excursions will provide students with a global perspective of the hydrogen economy.”

 

Graduates of this program will be leaders who play a key role in establishing Oman’s hydrogen sector, driving positive change and contributing to the global transition towards cleaner and more efficient energy systems.

 

While the programme has not been officially launched, this approval signifies a crucial step forward. GUtech is now working on starting its first student cohort in the first quarter of 2024 and looks forward to the positive impact its graduates will have on shaping the future of energy.
