Muscat: Fish farming in the Sultanate of Oman constitutes a fundamental pillar of economic diversification.
Studies and research proved that Oman is set to be a leader in the field of fish farming.
Fisheries Development Oman (FDO) company plays a pioneering role in this field, evidence to which is its management of the shrimp farming project in the Al Khuwaymah area in the Wilayat of Jalan Bani Bu Ali.
The opening of the project will take place on Thursday. The development project will be celebrated as a major contributor to food security in Oman.
Eng. Belarab Omar Al Battashi, Project engineer of Al Khuwaymah shrimp farm, said that the project occupies an area of two million square metres, with an investment value of OMR16 million.
Al Battashi pointed out that the project’s annual output in 2024 is scheduled to reach 3,700 tonnes of whiteleg shrimp, and that the output may grow to 4,000 tonnes.
During the pilot phase in March 2023, Al Khuwaymah shrimp farm produced 500 tonnes, Al Battashi added.
