Muscat: His Highness Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said, Honorary President of the Promising Omani Start-ups Programme (POSP), on Monday presided over the opening of a gathering titled “Promising Omani Startups Forum”, held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC).

The forum was aimed at highlighting the initiatives and achievements of the Promising Omani Startups Programme, fostering the culture of entrepreneurship, exploring the latest trends and studying international experiences and practices in the field, to better anticipate the future of the sector.

The forum saw the participation of more than 1,500 people, including entrepreneurs, students, experts, academics and interested persons. It constituted a valuable opportunity to learn about the challenges and opportunities facing the entrepreneurship sector.

The forum served as a platform for participants to enhance cooperation and exchange of experiences about better methods to spur economic development and build a promising future for Omani entrepreneurs.

The forum reviewed working papers elaborating on the programme’s three main themes of “Capacity Building for Startups”, “Funding Investment in Startups” and “Developing a Legal Setup for Startups”. It also included discussion panels on entrepreneurship and startups.

At the forum, the POSP operators briefed the gathering about the programme’s most prominent initiatives during 2023.

On the sidelines of the forum, an event titled “Startups Exhibition” was held, with the participation of 50 emerging companies whose structure was based on technology and innovation. The exhibition brought about startups from various sectors, and showcased projects that won advanced places in the “Entrepreneurial Race”, a contest organised by the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ASMED) in cooperation with firms affiliated to Oman Investment Authority (OIA).
