Muscat: An event entitled ‘Happiness Village Carnival’ for persons with disabilities was held coinciding with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The event was organised at the Civil Aviation Club yesterday to enhance and integrate persons with disabilities in society.
The function was sponsored by His Highness Sayyid Muhammad bin Thuwaini Al Said. Her Highness Sayyida Hajija bint Jeffer Al Said, the organiser of the event, said: “The carnival targeted more than 1,848 children affiliated with various associations and institutions that serve children with disabilities. It came in cooperation with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Civil Aviation Club to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities to enhance their abilities and integrate them into society.”
She added that the carnival aims to provide a safe entertainment space for people with disabilities, taking into account their needs and abilities, and also makes an impact on the lives of people with disabilities by supporting and empowering them.
She explained that the carnival included several activities represented by carriage and horse rides, entertaining shows, and safe recreational games for children with disabilities. It also included the presence of cartoon characters, an acrobatic artist, a food and beverage stall section, various games, science laboratory activities, a jumping castle event, and luxury car rides for children with disabilities, bike rides, and many other programmes to entertain them.
During the carnival event, a cooperation agreement was signed between the National Finance Company and Sign Book to provide sign language translation services. The carnival event was attended by a number of Their Highnesses and specialists from the government and private agencies.
