Annual festival for people with disabilities launched

Muscat: The 4th edition of the annual festival for people with disabilities opened today at the Bausher Sports Complex in Muscat Governorate.

The festival was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MCSY).

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development, in the presence of Basil Ahmed Al Rawas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth, and representatives of government and private agencies.

The festival saw the participation of governmental, civil society institutions and private establishments. The participants also included specialists in rehabilitation of persons with disabilities and lecturers from Oman and abroad, sign language interpreters, medical staff and referees.

Through the festival, the Ministry seeks to achieve a number of goals, most notably training operators in the areas of care for the disabled, encouraging the private sector to groom this segment of society in the fields of sports, selecting outstanding players to join the national Paralympic teams, accommodating people with disabilities in social groups and highlighting issues of concern to this segment of society.
