President of Swiss Confederation inaugurates stamp marking 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations

Muscat: Dr. Alain Berset, President of the Swiss Confederation, within the framework of his official visit to the Sultanate of Oman, inaugurated a joint commemorative postage stamp to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Swiss Confederation.

The postage stamp was issued by Oman Post, an affiliate of Asyad Group. The design of the postage stamp includes the historical “Jabreen Castle” in the Wilayat of Buhla and Waldegg Castle in the city of Niklaus, Switzerland.

The two landmarks were chosen due to the fact that both are from the same era (17th century). Jabreen Castle and Waldegg Castle are unique with their intricate architectural design and glorious heritage landmarks, and the two historical sites are surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery.

The history of diplomatic relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Swiss Confederation goes back to 1973 when Max Casanova became the first non-resident ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman. Since then, the relations between the two countries continued on the bases of peace, security and economic development.

Meanwhile, the commemorative postage stamp will be available for sale in Oman Post’s stamps and collectables store in the Opera Galleria.
