Over the last six months, a number of young people from schools, colleges and universities across the Sultanate have set up and run student businesses in the fields of agriculture and fisheries, mobile applications and in the power, tourism and services sectors. “At Injaz Oman, it is our belief that the potential of Omani youth is limitless. Entrepreneurial training alongside academic education will equip youngsters with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to succeed and adapt to the changing world of work. The Company Programme prepares youngsters to be a part of our national workforce of the future by instilling employability skills,” said Khaula Al Harthi, Executive Director of Injaz Oman.
“This initiative provides a real-life learning curve that introduces youngsters to the realities of the work environment. Youth entrepreneurship offers innovative solutions for economic growth among young people. INJAZ Oman’s Student Company Programme is not just a business competition for our young minds. It is rather a way to balance the business achievements of each team as a whole with their members’ individual personal development,” she added.
The start-ups will undergo a series of tests including exhibitions, presentations and interviews. A panel of highly experienced judges will conduct their evaluations. The student companies will be examined on their communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving capabilities, planning strategies, management and financial approaches, product development, marketing and sales, as well as revenues. In addition, students’ business skills will also be assessed.
