SQCCCRC obtains international license to provide ALERT programme

Muscat: Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Centre has obtained the international license to provide Acute Life-Threatening Events Recognition and Treatment (ALERT) training course.

The course trains the multi-profession healthcare team with a systematic approach to recognizing, treating, and escalating to a higher level of care when needed to preserve the patient's life.

SQCCCRC in collaboration with Portsmouth Hospital University Trust – UK, has conducted successful training on ALERT® course, attended by 29 staff, and 12 of them became certified trainers.

ALERT is a system that uses a structured and prioritized patient assessment and management to enable a pre-emptive approach to critical illness. ALERT® instructs staff in the recognition of impending clinical deterioration, the management of disordered physiology and other aspects of the delivery of acute care.

This is a significant achievement reflects SQCCCRC commitment to professional development and collaboration with other institutions. The newly certified trainers can now contribute their expertise to further enhance the skills and knowledge within SQCCCRC, and health care provider in Oman and the region.

SQCCCRC will be organizing ALERT® course training and certification periodically. Registration will be opened for participants across health institutions inside and outside the Sultanate.  The program focuses on the detection and management of threatening events in healthcare institutions.
