Muscat: Over 100 players from 12 countries will participate in the Junior and Ladies’ Pan Arab Golf Championship, played at Riyadh Golf Club in Saudi Arabia from the 28th to 30th November.
Hosted by the Saudi Golf Federation the tournament will feature five categories; Ladies, Girls Under 15 and Boys Under 13, Under 15 and Under 18. Each category will be contested at both individual and team level.
Oman will be represented at Under 18 level by Ahmed Al Wahaibi, Mahir Sampat, and Avi Hamlai, at Under 15 by Pransh Jagwani, and at Under 13 by Mohib Al Kathiri, Yusuf Al Rumhy, and Taimur Al Busaidi.
The tournament venue, Riyadh Golf Club, has just hosted the $1 million ARAMCO Team Series Presented by PIF event on the Ladies European Tour and will soon host the $1 million Saudi Open, the final event on the 2023 Asian Tour schedule. Following the opening ceremony on 27th November the regions leading amateurs will begin the three round, 54 hole, tournament with the youngest category playing two rounds, 36 holes.
A spokesperson for the SGF said: “The standard of golf amongst the youth of the Arab world is improving impressively. Handicaps in all categories are dropping rapidly. The competition looks to be fierce for both the Individual and Team Divisions.”
Mundhir Al Barwani, Chairman of the Oman Golf Association added “We wish all of our young players the best for this tournament, we have been fortunate in recent years to see success with our Under 18 team winning the Silver Medal and an individual Bronze Medal at the 2022 Pan Arab Championships in Tunisia, and we hope to go one better this year.
