Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport has planned a schedule to invest about OMR2.5 billion in the transport and logistics sector for the period between 2021 and 2025.
Eng. Khamis Mohammed Al Shammakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, confirmed the plan during workshops aimed to attract investments in the transport and logistics sector.
He pointed out that the value of the envisaged projects stood at OMR1.4 billion. This, he said, pertains to declared or yet-to-be-floated investment opportunities.
The second set of workshops to review investments in transport and logistics sector were reviewed on Sunday by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The workshops generated 27 investment opportunities and 6 enabling initiatives for the improvement of the logistics sector.
Organised by the Ministry and the CAA, with the support from the National Programme for Investment and Export Development “Nazdaher”, the programme lasted for two weeks during which the team of organisers held meetings with relevant authorities.
During the workshops, investors and private companies had a chance to identify related challenges, shape their ideas and study investment opportunities in cooperation with “Nazdaher”.
It is noteworthy that the workshops and clinics seek to attract investment in transport and logistics, and improve the sector’s attractiveness to Omani cadres, and the Sultanate of Oman’s ranking in the Logistics Performance Index.
They also aim to solve the challenges of ongoing projects, frame new investment opportunities, and work on the capabilities that support investment in the sector.
About 250 employees from 56 government and private establishments participated in the workshops, in addition to 15 investors from Oman and abroad. -With ONA inputs
