Special Shura Council session to elect chairman, deputy chairmen

Muscat: The Shura Council will hold an extraordinary session to elect a chairman and two deputy chairmen for the Council’s 10th term (2023-2027) on Thursday.

The special session will witness a vote of 90 members, 63 percent of whom are new.

The voting process will be conducted using modern technologies in accordance with the procedures in force for the Shura Council.

The election process will take place by secret ballot via the electronic system as per the instructions that each member will have to follow through his own electronic interface displaying the list of candidates to facilitate the selection process.

Each candidate will be given a space to display his CV, after which the voting process will take place via the system in complete privacy.

Electing the chairmen and his deputies will be conducted electronically as the oldest member will preside over the session if he is not a candidate wishing to contest the position of chairman or deputy chairman.

The extraordinary session’s chairman will be assisted by two younger members.

The proceedings of the session will begin with a speech of the Secretary General.

Then, the members will take the oath and proceed with the election process. They will elect a chairman and two deputy chairmen in two separate ballots.

The tenth term of the Shura Council represents an important event at the national level as it comes amidst many important changes that Oman is witnessing in the framework of implementing its Oman 2040 Vision.

The Council, during its tenth term, will contribute towards achieving the goals of the Tenth Five-Year Development Plan.
