Kansas City shootouts end with suspect dead

Police shot and killed a man in Kansas City on Sunday after a series of running street shootouts that saw three officers wounded and hospitalised.

According to authorities, undercover officers were following a person of interest in the murder of a university student when he suddenly and unexpectedly fired on them with a rifle.

The suspect then fled from a home where he'd been hiding and traded fire with police, before being shot and taken into custody.

He was later declared dead by the Kansas City Fire Department.
