Heritage Ministry launches book titled “Oman Zaman: Traces of the Past”

Muscat: Acting in cooperation with the Oman Historical Association, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism today launched a book titled “Oman Zaman: Traces of the Past”, authored by Margaret Kapenga Shurdom.

The book deals with various aspects of ancient life in the Sultanate of Oman.

Kapenga lived and worked in the Sultanate of Oman between 1948 and 1983.

The book launch ceremony, held at the National Museum, was held under the auspices of Salim Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism.

It was attended by the author, officials and specialists from the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, Oman Historical Association, the National Museum and Omani dignitaries.

Published in English, “Oman Zaman: Traces of the Past” will be translated at a later stage. It comprises more than 300 photos and images of paintings, manuscripts, letters and the writer’s family memos that describe social life during their period of residence in Oman.

A photo exhibition was opened on the sidelines of the ceremony. It showcased paintings by artist Evelyn Underwood, the author’s grandmother, whose works were inspired by her visit to the Kapenga family in the first years of their stay in Oman in the 1950s.
