10 wilayats to fight it out at the Salalah Tourism Festival

Muscat: Ten wilayats will be competing against each other in the ‘Wilayats Competition’, one of the main events in the Salalah Tourism Festival, which kicks off on July 16.
The wilayats participating in the competition are Al-Mudhaibi, Jalan Bani Bu Ali, Samail, Maqshan, Al Awabi, Abri, Bausher, Sohar, Al Mazyona, and Thumrait.
“The States Competition has a great role in defining the identity of Omani states, their arts, customs, and traditions, and also helps in the exchange of experiences and cultural and social knowledge,” said the Organising Committee of the Salalah
Festival.
The wilayats will be assessed based on several criteria, including presentation idea, seriousness and effectiveness of participation, physical exhibits of the local environment and traditional folklore, social and cultural efforts of the wilayat, and the effectiveness of social associations, among others.
This year’s Khareef season has seen a remarkable increase in the number of visitors to the Dhofar Governorate, which has exceeded 136,577 in 2018. This represents an increase of 72.7 per cent compared to the 79,000 visitors recorded during the same period in 2017, according to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
