Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), has warned people of heavy thundershowers, associated with active downward winds and hail, over most governorates of the Sultanate of Oman today evening.
"Heavy thunderstorms accompanied by active downward winds and possible hail over the Governorates of North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah and North Al Sharqiyah and concentrated on the Hajar Mountains and neighbouring areas till the coasts of the Sea of Oman. The Civil Aviation Authority calls on everyone to exercise caution during thunderstorms, not to cross valleys, avoid low-lying places, and not to go to the sea during the alert period, " CAA said.
What to expect:
1. Heavy rain measuring between 10-40 mm, leading to flooding of valleys.
2. Active downward winds with speeds ranging between 15 and 45 knots (28-83 km/h).
3. Reduced horizontal visibility due to dust rising during thunderstorms.
